Sunset in Black and White

These are essentially the same shot as the previous post, only in black and white. They weren’t shot on the same day, but this barn is on the walk I do with my dog on most days so it ends up in a lot of my photos.

These were shot on the Nikon FA using Reflx Pan 400 film. This is low-cost stock out of China. So far, I’m not wild about it. There’s a muddiness to everything I’ve shot on this film stock and emulsion seems to get damaged easily in the developing process (I usually use the Cinestill df96 monobath because I’m lazy). Maybe I just need to be more careful.

SantaColor 100

I ordered 10 rolls of this film on Stanta 1000’s Kickstarter last year but so far have shot only a couple of rolls. This has nothing to do with the film itself, but mostly because I tend to lean toward black and white, which I can develop at home.

Overall, I like the look this film delivers. While I love the muted tones that seem to play up the reds by comparison, I also found you can get some punchy colors out of this film under the right condition.

Shot on Leica M6 TTL with the Summicron 35.

hand-tinted vibes with Lomochrome Purple

I shot a roll of Lomography Purple last summer with the Fuji Mini Dual, a twin lens point-and-shoot, a compact number that let’s you toggle between 28mm (which I love in a point-and-shoot) and 45mm. I’ve found that these two focal length suits my shooting needs in most situations, though I tend to favor 35mm and 50mm in rangefinders and SLRs.

I have difficulty picturing what the final images will look like when taking the photos, but with a little tweaking, I love the vintage hand-tinted look that’s com across on these.

Still trying to get the hang of the Mamiya RB67

I bought a Mamiya RB67 earlier this year, something I definitely did not need as I already owner several medium format cameras, mostly 6×6, but also a 6×9. Still, I was curious about the buzz and it came bundled with a Mamiya C3 and C330, so why not?

The first few rolls produced decidedly mixed results, entirely on me.

The camera his a beast to haul around and I still fumble with it every time I take it out. I like the 6×7 format and it shows promise, but I’m undecided about if I’ll keep it, mainly because I’m unsure how often I would take it out.

The 6×7 I lust after is the Fuji GF670, something I could travel with, though I’ve never even seen one in real life let alone held one.

Figuring Out Lomochrome Purple

Posted in 35mm, Canon, Canon FD, Color film, lomography, Nikon, Point and Shoot, SLR, Vermont with tags , , , , , , , , on September 16, 2022 by msogavt

Like Lomochrome Metropolis, it took me a couple of tries before I began to figure out this film. My first pass, the images looked nothing like those I saw others creating. The trick was in the editing, and once that clicked, I started getting a muted hand-tinted look that I really liked.

These images come from two rolls taken on two cameras, a Canon A1 with a FD 50mm f1.2 (the cheap one), and a Fuji Discovery Mini Dual point-and-shoot.

This used to be the entrance to the underground portion of a garage, now gone to make way for new development – stalled now for more than a year. When it rains hard, the water has no place to go. Playing with the light and shadows.
