Winter light

Burlington ferry docks lit by setting winter sun.

The Kowa Six’s 6×6 format shows off the depth of color that Fujifilm’s Velvia 100 brings to the image. This was shot with Kowa’s older camera — designed similar to the Hasselblad, but with a fixed film chamber built into the body. At 4 pounds-plus, not well suited for handheld photography on the bikepath. I love the big viewfinder, which seems brighter than my YashicaMat or Zeiss Ikoflex TLRs.

Loveladies LBI

Looking out to sea past the dunes, Loveladies/Harvey Cedar, LBI

Somewhere on the Loveladies/Harvey Cedar town line. Final frame from my first outing with the Ikoflex 1a. I only managed to get six shots out of 12, due to some problems with the film advance and counter.

Staring out from the burrow

Staring out from the burrow

More industrial wasteland shots from Burlington. The windows opening onto this ‘courtyard’ are mostly of studio housing artists and such.

Garage Door With a Heart

Garage door off of Howard Street facing the Green Door Studio in Burlington

Heart of the matter

Detail, Garage door off of Howard Street facing Green Door Studio in Burlington

I first saw this door at night by the light of naked bulbs and candles and loved the shadows that played across the surface to create great textures. The scene was too dark for my poor old film camera, so I came back the next day in daylight. The scene was quite different, had less character, but there was enough to capture my interest.

Barge Canal Loveseats

Barge Canal in June. The love seats offer a decidedly more pleasant view when the ice is gone.

Back shooting at one of my favorite locations, the Supefund site known as the Pine Street Barge Canal. On a clear and bright June morning, the view offers no hint of the toxicity that lies beneath.
