Monk on the Ginza

Monk on the Ginza

Incongruous as it may seem to see a monk with his begging bowl on one of the most high-end districts in Tokyo, this isn’t that unexpected in a place where there isn’t the stark line between religion and everyday life as in Japan. Still an interesting contrast although unfortunately you can’t see any of the fancy storefronts in the shot.

This was a bit of a tough shot. We had a moving subject, although he was staking slow, deliberate steps, in the shade against a very bright background. I took a hurried reading off of Voigtlander VC II on top of my camera, but I’m afraid I took in much more light than I should have.
