Asakusabashi, Tokyo

Private shrine, Asakusabashi, Tokyo

This was just a doorway in the neighborhood surrounding the JR Asakusabashi station in Tokyo. This is an older area of town, almost “shita-machi” near the Sumida River. The neighborhood is probably best known for the several famous shops specializing in traditional Japanese dolls.

I grabbed this shot on the run on the short walk from our hotel to the station. It had rained earlier in the morning so and the flowers looked lively. This was  practically in the road as the doors open directly onto the street. It’s not unusual to see people put a lot of effort into the little space they have in front of or to the side of their homes even in the most densely packed areas of the city.
