Missing the point.

Ok, last post for the morning. I think I’m making up for lost time.

This photo posted on Twitpic by AP reporter Tomoko Hosaka in Tokyo reminds me how photography can actually get in the way of seeing things. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom and this brings out the crowds at prime viewing (and partying) spots around Japan. Look all the people with the cameras, straining to get a decent shot. And while doing so, they’re missing the point of flower viewing. Cherry blossoms are among the first flowers of spring and only last a few days. The first big wind will scatter the petals. That’s part of the charm — fleeting and all that. The idea is to live in the moment. Getting too caught up in taking photos can make you forget that.
